séismes

original score / 2019

theatrical performance by summertide company

What does it mean to not live a traumatic event but feel it in oneself? In December 2019, coronavirus was a far away problem; here we are now in 2020 in the middle of a global pandemic, symptomatic of an ever worsening climate crisis. Artists have been forced to ask the question: How can we continue to tell stories in the ever oppressive context of climate change? In order to respond, Séismes, a dream epic that mixes text in three languages with dance, and that traverses countries and dimensions, calls for a theatre of the 21st century that valorizes hybridization.

Liberally inspired by Après le tremblement de terre by Haruki Murakami, this play by Sean Hardy is the third production of the Summertide Company.
